Markus Bodler wrote a Ph.D. dissertation on the French historian Jean-Baptiste Duroselle. In his research, he focuses on questions of historiography and international history.
Markus Bodler was born in southern Bavaria and studied political science and history at the universities of Bamberg and Bonn, with a year-long stay in both Aix-en-Provence at the Institut d’études politiques and in London at the Royal Institute of International Affairs.
Being a Francophile at heart, he specialized in the history of contemporary France, writing a biography on the French diplomatic historian Jean-Baptiste Duroselle (1917-1994). His research brought him not only to France and the French-speaking parts of Switzerland, but also to the U.S. Thus, he is an expert in historiography and has a solid background in international and diplomatic history, especially the rather thorny issue of Franco-German relations. He last held a teaching position at the University of Potsdam.
