Marcus Funck studied History, Comparative Literature, Sociology, and Canadian Studies in Germany and Canada. He completed a B.A. in Canadian Studies, an M.A. in History, and received his doctorate from TU Berlin in 2003. After an assistantship at Marburg University, he joined York University in Toronto in 2006 where he served at the Canadian Centre for German and European Studies. Since 2011, he has been associate professor (wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter) at the Zentrum für Antisemitismusforschung (TU Berlin).

His research interests include a wide range of topics in modern German, European and transatlantic history (19th and 20th cent.), among them the history of the German nobility, military history, and urban history. Currently he is focusing on populist movements in the Western world, German conceptions of “Volk” and “identity”, and, by contrast, the history and political philosophy of multiculturalism. Besides his academic work, he regularly comments on current political affairs in public discussions and in a wide range of media.
