Tom Rojo Poller is a composer and musicologist, living and teaching in Berlin (presently at both the University of the Arts and the Barenboim-Said-Academy). He studied music, musicology, literature and philosophy in Detmold, Berlin, and London. His degrees comprise two diplomas in composition, an M.A. in German Literature and Philosophy as well as a Ph.D. in Musicology. As a composer and researcher, he is especially interested in the relationship between music and other arts and media. His dissertation dealt with artistic techniques of transferring language into music, and many of his compositions employ various transformation strategies such as deriving musical material from extra-musical sources or recomposing existing music (e.g. in his acoustical remix of a track by the German Techno trio "BrandtBrauerFrick"). Dr. Poller was awarded numerous prizes and scholarships, his articles have been published in different scholarly journals, and his music has been performed at major musical festivals and institutions throughout Europe.
