Sophie Spieler is a doctoral candidate at the Graduate School of the John F. Kennedy Institute for North American Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. Her fields of interests are, among others, the aesthetics and rhetoric of wealth and prestige and the meanings of eliteness in the United States. Her current working title is "The Brilliant, the Wealthy, the Few: The Contemporary Discourse of Elite Education in the United States". Within the last few years, Sophie Spieler has published a variety of conference papers and articles. She has been a student and graduate research assistant at TU Dresden and received several awards and fellowships, for instance the Victor-Klemperer-Certificate for Outstanding Achievement in the Humanities and Social Sciences in 2012, and the BCGS Scholarship at Princeton University in 2015. From 2009 to 2010, she was a Fulbright Scholar in the American Studies Master’s program at Fairfield University, Fairfield, CT, USA.
