Inhalt
The Freie Universität Berlin will offer a summer composition course taught by Samuel Adler of the Juilliard School lasting six weeks between May 31st, 2008 and July 12th, 2008. Up to 15 students studying at an American or Canadian university of college will be accepted to the program. The course will consist of weekly private composition lessons and master classes presented by German and/or international composers. Each student will be matched with one or more performers and write a work for that performer during the program. The compositions will be performed at a final concert during the last week of classes in Berlin.

In addition, students have the opportunity to take a class in conducting. Dr. Emily Freeman Brown will teach this class. She is the Music Director and Conductor of the Bowling Green Philharmonia and Opera Theater at Bowling Green State University in Ohio. (optional at extra cost)

Students also have the opportunity to enrol in German language class according to their proficiency level. FUBiS offers German language classes on five proficiency levels, from beginner to advanced.

FUBiS is a fully accredited institution, permitting transfer of credits to participants’ home institutions (Composition Course: 6 ECTS credits, German Language Course: 6 ECTS credits)
Application Procedure
The course will be restricted to 15 students currently enrolled at an American or Canadian music composition program at university or college level.
Students applying for the music composition course are required to submit two (2) representative scores, preferably accompanied by a recording, along with a letter of interest, CV, copy of academic transcript(s), application form and a $15 application fee.
The total costs for this special class with Samuel Adler are 1,800 Euro plus accommodation and excursions. These costs consist of tuition, 1,200 Euro, and a special program fee of 600 Euro.
