Celina

Celina Bertoni, Argentinien:

"Mir hat die FUBiS sehr gut gefallen! Am Besten waren die Studenten und die ganzen Leute hier. Es war wunderbar und ich werde die FUBiS auf jeden Fall wieter empfehlen!"

Aase

Aase Refsnes, Norwegen:

"I liked FUBiS very much and I learned German, that was the point of it… so I’m very happy! Living in Berlin was a great experience!  Especially for Scandinavian people I would recommend to go here in summer because of the warmth. For exchange students the cultural meaning is very cool."

Alejandro

Alejandro Burga, Chile:

"Mir hat die FUBiS sehr gut gefallen, ich hatte eine wunderbare Zeit hier und ich habe mein Deutsch verbessert. Aber das Wichtigste ist dass ich Berlin kennengelernt habe. Die vielen gemischten Kulturen hier finde ich sehr interessant. Die Exkursionen haben mir auch sehr gut gefallen! Ich war in Dresden, was mir sehr gut gefallen hat."

James

James Dedrick, Australien:

" Das FUBiS-Programm ist wirklich sehr gut!"

smelser

Professor Ronald Smelser, Department of History, University of Utah, USA:

"I accompanied a group of 12 students attached to the University of Utah summer study abroad program to Berlin. Aside from my function as Resident Director I also was responsible for examining the FU program while it was underway, because the students would be transferring one semester's worth of credits back to their home university. To this end, I sat in on as many classes as I could during the month, examined some of the tests the students took as well as the readings for the courses, and accompanied them on field trips. After all this, I can say that the courses which I observed fulfilled my expectations completely. The lectures were at a high level; time in class was extensive; the field trips augmented classroom work admirably, and the faculty members were accessible to the students. In my judgment, the students fully earned the credits which were transferred. Moreover, there was also time for fun along with study, and the students took full advantage of this, including the field trip to Weimar put on by the FU. This is a program which deserves to continue and expand."

Kristina Florov, Wellesley College, USA:

"Attending the Freie Universität Berlin's International Summer University gave me an invaluable experience. I had the opportunity to meet students from all over Europe, engage in the vibrant city life of Berlin, explore its modern culture and its historical past, all the while, delving in subjects taught by leading authorities in their fields. The Freie Universität Berlin's International Summer University delivers a first-rate experience. The program is arranged in great detail with care to accommodate and facilitate the interests of its students; it is extensively organized and excellently directed. It offers a memorable experience of both intellectual and cultural discovery."

Hajnalka Daróci, Law Student, Budapest, Ungarn:

"The FUBiS 2001 Summer University was a great experience for me - much more than I expected! I think on one hand it was thanked to the organizers, Jens Westerfeld and Claudia Schwarz, who they did their best in order to assure that students have a good time at the summer university and on the other hand to the courses and the teachers! I liked the lively mood of the lessons, where everybody could tell, what he or she thinks about the given question and the afternoon excursions, where we could have had some experience in connection with the topic of the course - so it was theoretical and practical at the same time! It was fantastic the meet students from all around the world, to get to know other ways of thinking! We had lots of fun together, parties, excursions, common dinners! And last the city Berlin itself had a wonderful mood with its history, multiculturalism, the old and the brand new buildings next to each other, and the liveliness of the city! Unforgettable!"

Carolyn Marshall, Berlin-based Australian Architect, Berlin, Deutschland:

"The course on "Architecture in Berlin in the Course of History" covers a fascinating subject and would be interesting for a wide spectrum of people. The organization and lecture content were excellent. Few cities have such a range of buildings illustrating the development of architecture. I really enjoyed this course and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in architecture and/or history."

Nadia Florov, Mount Holyoke College, USA:

"My experience in Berlin was unforgettable. I had heard about its mystique, but I never thought I would brave its past and venture to find some understanding of this historic "iceberg" as Freud might have called it. This city looks like any ordinary, heavily populated European city, just with an extraordinary amount of trees! But, beneath Berlin's surface is a deep past. It was my adventure to start exploring beneath this iceberg that is Berlin. One needs meticulous guides to really see through the haze history has left behind for this striking city and what better guides can one have than Professor Klausa and Professor Betz at FUBiS? FUBiS provides the skilled guides, the professors who widen your eyes to the complexity of what is Berlin. I loved the excursions. The teachers were always well prepared and energetic. FUBiS is an excellent and well organized program. I gave a short speech about it to prospective majors at my school."

Vitaly Pylypiv, Student of Economics, Ukraine:

"Well, I enjoyed FUBiS very much. The great advantage of this summer university is that it provides a great variety of courses. Student of different fields of study can find in FUBiS course of their interest. I am completely satisfied with my courses, I picked up a lot of very interesting and important information, broadened my horizons. The study process in this summer university is organized perfectly - they provide everything necessary. I spent very good time in Berlin, visited a lot of interesting places and made a lot of friends. I would like to advise all my friends to participate in this program and I will always remember FUBiS 2001 as one of the most interesting places I have ever visited."

Christina Pena Gomez, Student of Economics, Madrid, Spanien:

"First of all I would like to thank you all for all your kindness and your attention. The lessons were very interesting; in spite of the number of students we all get along very well with one and another, that was the most important thing. Furthermore, we all sometimes realized that we had more in common than we thought. On the excursions front, I'd like to praise all the effort to achieve this outstanding selection of common places. To be honest, this has been my first time at a Summer University and at the beginning I hesitated whether to participate or not but I knew that if I had refused it, I would have regretted it. Now after the experience I confirm that I would have because the atmosphere was very cozy; not only regarding the city, but also the summer course. Berlin is a very big metropolis where all the people can find the right place. I can't deny that the influence of the history has its "fingertips" but that's in fact what people find more interesting. I also recommend the trip to Weimar; this small town is a treasure! There are an awful lot of things I'd like to tell you about my experience at FUBiS 2001 but my purpose is not to make you bored with a book, so the last thing I'd like to tell you is: Don’t let this opportunity go!"
