Excursion to Dresden

Dresden: Opera house
Dresden: Opera house

Dresden highlights the many faces and phases of German history in a way that very few other German cities do or can. With its carefully restored architecture and charming location on the Elbe River, Dresden is also quite a visually impressive city. Founded in 12th century, Dresden (also known as “Venice of the East or “Florence on the Elbe”) entered a period of prosperity when it became the residence of Saxon prince electors and kings in the 16th century.

One of the most significant historical events that took place in Dresden was the city’s almost complete destruction in the Allied air-bombings of February 1945, from which the city slowly recovered. Today the capital city of the Free State of Saxony stands in renewed splendour; places of interest include the Semper Opera, the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), the Dresden fortress and the Elbe bank.

Excursion tickets can be purchased during the registration process or later, provided that there are still places available.

To find out more about Dresden, please visit the city's official website.
