Computer Lab & Internet
FUBiS participants will have access to the Freie Universität Berlin on-campus computing facilities (Zedat), including free-of-charge Internet access and access to on-campus printing facilities. Since these computer facilities are always heavily frequented and only available on weekdays, we recommend that students bring their own laptop and connect to the university’s Wi-Fi system Please note that you will most likely need an adaptor to use it.
The Opening Hours of the Zedat are as follows:
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 9.30 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. – 5.30 p.m.
In March, August, September the Opening hours are as follows:
Monday through Friday 8 a.m. – 7.30 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. – 1.30 p.m.
Telephone communication
In order to communicate with your family and friends back home while you are in Berlin you may choose between various options. You may use several public phones on the Campus of the Freie Universität which function with coins. Communicating internationally is also an easy way with the program called Skype (it is free when you call from computer to computer).
If you want to bring your own Cell Phone, please note that there are different frequencies. European cell phones are usually compatible with two frequencies: 900 MHz and 1800 MHz. If you are thinking of bringing your own cell phone, it must work on these frequencies. If it does not (in the United States, for example, most cell phones work on 850 MHz and 1900 MHz frequencies) you will need to purchase a phone once you’re in Berlin. Another option is to purchase a pre-paid card for your cell phone while you are in Berlin.
