Philipp Pattberg is an associate professor (tenured) of Transnational Environmental Governance with the Department of Environmental Policy Analysis, Institute for Environmental Studies, VU University Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He also serves as the deputy–director and research coordinator of the Global Governance Project. Further, he is Management Committee Chair of the European COST Action “The Transformation of Global Environmental Governance: Risks and Opportunities” and chair of the Environmental Policy and Global Change Section of the German Political Science Association (DVPW). From 2006 to 2010, he acted as the academic director of a series of PhD training school on Global Environmental Change, supported by the EU Marie Curie Program. Philipp was visiting full professor at the Department of Political Science, TU Darmstadt (2009); visiting professor at American University, Washington DC (2009); and visiting professor at SciencesPo Bordeaux (2007). He is the author of Private Institutions and Global Governance: The New Politics of Environmental Sustainability (Edward Elgar); and co–editor of Global Climate Governance beyond 2012: Architecture, Agency and Adaptation (Cambridge University Press). In 2009, he was awarded the 2009 Science Prize of the German Political Science Association for his work on sustainability.
