Carmen Becker received her diploma in Political Science from the Freie Universität Berlin in 2003. From 2004 until 2007 she worked for the German Federal Foreign Office as an analyst of the Arab media and later on as a desk officer in the Policy Planning Department of the ministry. Currently, she is a PhD fellow at the International Institute for the Study of Islam in the Modern World (ISIM) in the Netherlands where she conducts research on the transformation of Salafism in the modern media.
